"It's hard to explain if you haven't gone through it,
but there's no doubt we are living a miracle."

who received the first ASA dog

DFA is one of only a handful of service dog organizations in the entire country
working with children with autism.  We want more parents to have the benefit  of
dogs trained to assist with specific behavioral issues--the results can be life-
changing!

Bill & Cheri Marsh (Greenville, SC)
"Scout, our ASA trainee, is very patient with our twins who both have autism. I
really didn't know that any dog could be so tolerant of them, so interested in
them, and so tuned-in to our household routine. This project is going to hugely
increase the safety of our boys and the quality of their life. Scout is a lifesaver,
literally."

Angela Marcedos, (San Bernardino, CA)
"Evan, our ASA dog, made it possible for me to live on my own with my autistic
son. Without his extra eyes and ears and dedication to helping, managing
Justin alone would not be possible. It's an incredible relief to be able to go to
sleep at night and know Evan is 100% on duty. Nothing will go wrong without
him letting me know."

Max & Cindy Council (Greenville, SC)
"As the legally blind mother of an autistic, non-verbal child, we have some
frustrating daily challenges. Bryant is unable to communicate and is completely
unaware of any danger to himself. We need all possible tools to cope; an ASA
dog has become a priority for us.”

Philip & Kelly Capers (Athens, GA)
“When we first considered the idea of a service dog for our autistic son we
were turned down by every organization we contacted.  For two years, they told
us using a dog with autistic children was impossible.  Today our dog, Larissa, is
trained in public assistance and search and rescue.  Larissa has given our
family freedom we thought was lost forever and proven that
nothing is impossible.”
