More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, cancer, and diabetes combined. Yet the amount of private funding for autism is less than 2% of that for better-known childhood diseases. Dogs For Autism believes this is a crisis situation: the time to help is NOW.
In 2007 we decided to focus our program's broad training experience on increasing the use of service dogs for children with autism. Circumstances and needs of each child vary widely--but well chosen and well trained dogs are extremely flexible! At Dogs For Autism, we believe parents, educators, and clinicians need more tools (and need them quickly) to maximize the potential of children with autism. Our dogs are proving they can make a difference.
